Books

From Dress & Cloak Cutter, Women's Costume 1877 - 1882:
"It may, in the first place, be asserted that by previous observation and experience, we may and commonly do arrive at some conclusion which enables us, with more or less confidence, to select from among the evidence some proof for holding to a certain opinion."

Yes indeed, could not have put it better myself!

Other than books about lace and embroidery, I've recently read Wife Dressing by Anne Fogarty, a wonderful style guide book from late fifties. I'm fantasizing about being a professional wife, whose ambitions lie in choosing the right glove style to a charity luncheon and assessing if she should pack 4 or 6 petticoats for a weekend's trip.

I also read Fool Moon by Jim Butcher, it's second book in a series that tells about the life of a wizard in today's America in the style of hard-boiled crime novels. The writer has some really annoying mannerisms, but I like Hellblazer and this is somewhat similar. And one morning when I was in the bus on my way to Uni, listening to some energetic music in my iPod and reading a chapter about fighting werewolves (after the hero had drank a magical "super coffee" and was all hyped up) I felt my very real life sleepyness wash away. Very invigorating!

In real life I find "bad boys" dumb and not the least bit interesting, but in fiction I love the cynical antihero shithead. John Constantine, oh! By the way I was extremely disappointed when Keanu "Yks-ilme" Reeves played Constantine in the film. Ruined the movie for mee.
